The Academy shows three times daily (April to October) at the Scottish Wool Centre.

Meet the Class
You will meet up to eight of our students. Together they present a cross section of Border collie breed types, including bearded, long-haired, smooth-haired, black and white and tri-coloured dogs. We also have some overseas students at the school, for example "Oz" the Australian Sheepdog, a most unusual bob-tailed sheepdog.

Liath and Nell

Headmaster, Fergus Wood
introduces the class.

Nell judges the singing
competition

Agility
The Border collie has to be fit and agile to meet the challenge of a working day in the Scottish hills and mountains. Some hill farm dogs can run up to 50 miles (75kms) a day at gathering times. They also have to contend with obstacles. such as gates, dry-stone dykes, rivers and fallen trees as part and parcel of their work. Our mini obstacle course will give you some idea as to the agility of the dogs

Class Competition
Scottish sheepdogs do not make good singers! But, as part of our class competition for which there is a team prize, you will be asked to sing a "dog" song as well as answering 10 questions.

The Finale
This is a chance to see and film the entire class as they pose for their class photograph at the end of the show in a rather noisy finale with a difference! After the show, check with our daily programme of events: there may well be a display of sheepdogs working either with ducks (The Quack Commandos) or sheep out in our front display paddock.
